On the internet 36 is old (and dangerous)?

May 24, 2008

According to and article in The Register, “Social networking site bans oldies over sex offender fears.“  The story indicates that Faceparty, a social network site I have never heard of, has banned most users over the age of 36.  Frankly the story sounds like b.s., but what shocked me was that I am old.  I turned 36 this year.  Is it true?  Am I really old?  The article also suggest that people 36 or older are more likely to be sex offenders.  Really?  I didn’t know that. I did a little research and learned from the US Department of Justice that 75% of child molesters are younger than 40, only 25% were older.  It would seem that Faceparty would do better to ban everyone younger than 40 thus limiting both abusers and victims from their membership ranks.
