Coworking @ The INFOMART

February 20, 2008

More than a year ago I offered to help create a coworking facility at the INFOMART.  What is the INFOMART?

The Infomart is one of the largest buildings in Dallas, Texas, located at 1950 Stemmons Freeway in the Market Center neighborhood between Oak Lawn and Interstate 35E (Texas) near downtown. The 7-floor, 1.5 million square foot building is one of the most distinctive in the city. It was modeled after The Crystal Palace, a huge iron and glass building, originally erected in Hyde Park in 19th century Britain to house the Great Exhibition of 1851.  The building houses most of the major data centers from Equinix, Switch & Data, Dataside, Verio and of course our very own facility.  The building also offers tenants a workout facility, a locker room and shower facility, a bar, convenience store, a Starbucks as well as a full-service cafeteria.

What is coworking?

According to the wiki it is a cafe-like community/collaboration space for developers, writers and independents.  Specifically, start with a shared office and add cafe culture.  Which is the opposite of most modern cafes.  The New York Times just wrote an article on the idea in a piece called They’re Working on Their Own, Just Side by Side.  Check it out.

We are in the process of building out an entirely open format space adjacent to our three other suites in the building.  If you are interested in getting a desk, i.e. coworking.  The new space should be open within 60 days.  Our initial idea will be to interview you (i.e. just to make sure you aren’t a criminal or something) and then offer you a one week trial for free.  Come hang out for a week.  This way you can make sure it is a fit, assuming that you get along with everyone we will give you an access code and a permanent desk.  Initial tenants include our own companies including the Big in Japan guys, the WhiteBox guy, the ServiceGuys and of course the Texas Startup Guy (i.e. me).  Our initial fee will be $200 per desk.  If you are interested give me a call.
