Blogging as Networking Tool!

January 14, 2008

My PhotoLast month I spoke to the Dallas chapter of the IEEE about venture capital, startups and entrepreneurship. After the panel discussion Leslie Mason came up to me and introduced herself. Turns out I had mentioned her in a post back in 2006 and as she explained to me:

“…Alexander Muse introduced me to blogging back in 2006 when he mentioned a search I was conducting for a client in the IPTV space on his blog. I was able to meet him this afternoon and thank him personally for helping me with that search and also inspiring me to start my own blog.”

Through my blog I have met hundreds of people around the globe. Whether I am attending a conference in Dallas, San Francisco or Banglore, India I meet people who ‘know’ me through my blog. I have been able to time-shift my life (i.e. tell stories, explain ideas and make suggestions) to thousands of people at the same time. I couldn’t possibily reach the number of people I have through the blog via traditional means (conferences, email, phone, fax). Presidential candidates (or their staff members) have contacted me about my ideas about immigration after reading about them on my blog. It has been an amazing experience. Over the next few weeks I am going to be working with a few ‘experts’ to help me refocus my efforts on the blogging front. If you haven’t explored blogging I highly recommend giving it a try…
