2008 Startup to Watch: BUG
August 1, 2007
Bug Labs is building devices that will allow makers to build cool connected ’stuff’ and a development framework that will allow open source programmers to ‘make’ that cool connected stuff work. I suspect that early adopters everywhere will know about Bug Labs by the end of the year and by the end of 2008 almost everyone else will know about cool stuff built on top of their components. I bet that I will have some bugs before the end of the year (hint). If you are a Maker I suggest following their progress here. What is bug?
So what is BUG exactly? It’s Legos meets Web services & APIs. Imagine being able to build any gadget you wanted by simply connecting simple, functional components together. Now imagine being able to easily program, share and connect these gadgets in interesting ways. In essence, we’re building an open source-based platform for programmers to build not only the applications they want but the hardware to run it on. [via]
