Barcamp Dallas: Microsoft Style. . .

January 20, 2007

Almost a year after we hosted the first Barcamp in Dallas (the third Barcamp in history) another Barcamp was hosted by Microsoft down the road in Irving (home of the Cowboys).  The security was a little tighter this time, I registered late so Microsoft security did not have me on the list and as a result I was denyed entrance.

Ironic because I flew to Bangalore, India to attend a Barcamp hosted at Yahoo and didn’t have any problems getting in (I wasn’t on the list, but explained that I was a Barcamper and they decided to let me in).  Defeated by Microsoft security I decided to check out the Stanley Cup instead (it is in town for the All Star game I assume).  Check it out! (Jake got in so I am sure he give us the skinny Big in Japan blog)

    Hi Alex,

I’m truly sorry that you were thwarted in your attempt to join us at BarCampDallas3 — we could have used you as a judge in Christopher St. John’s Half-baked session.

I’m not certain why you were denied admittance — as about 25% of our participants didn’t register at all. In any event, I hope you’ll join us for the next BarCamp Texas event during SXSWi.

    Alex –

First, wow – this is disappointing. As one of the organizers of BarCampDallas, I can say that everyone should have been let in.

Second, I would love to know the time that you arrived and who you talked to that night, and who “denied you access”. Did you talk to anyone in the building? We had a sign on the door with two phone numbers on it. Did you try to call either of those? I know that there were at least two (and maybe more?) people at BarCampDallas that weekend that weren’t “on the list” – they just ended up with hand written guest badges instead of the pre-printed ones. So… this doesn’t make a lot of sense. People were in and out of the building all day and through out the night. I’d love to know more about the events that you went through that night. Thanks.
