Growth at Spur - our new data center!

September 3, 2006

This month we acquired McLeod’s data center and various telecommunications, power and HVAC assets located in the INFOMART. It happens to be located next to our original data center located in suite 2013 (we will be keeping the old facility - just punching through the wall to create a door). The data center will serve several purposes. First, it will be the new home of our Railhead Ruby on Rails clustering service. Second, it will allow for growth in the Architel, Big in Japan and SimpleTicket businesses. We were down to four racks in the old facility and adding the new facility (perhaps six times the size) will give us the breathing room we need.

As part of the transfer of assets, McLeod will become a colocation customer allowing us to manage their fiber optic interconnection within the building. Level 3, Verizon and Cox will also become colocation customers using our facilities to interconnect with one another and various locations within the building. These agreements fall on the heels of our agreement with the INFOMART to manage technology within the building. We are still planning on some modifications including a new door, window and perhaps paint. We also need to modify the power distribution. Here are some pictures (the first rack of servers just got rolled in - the rest are downstairs):

Are you looking for other co-location customers? Who do I call?

  2. Big in Japan Blog Says:

[...] For more than a year Big in Japan has been building and hosting social tools for various brands.  Initially we assumed that large corporate clients would want to ‘house’ our tools in their own state-of-the-art data centers, but soon we realized that the opposite was the case.  100% of our clients require that we provide our tools as managed services, instead of simply delivering them executable code.  We realized that as our client base grew our data center needs would grow as well and as a result we acquired an operational data center from McLeod in late 2006. Our managed environments include: [...]
